First Quarter Update

The first quarter of 2023 has been an eventful one for our team, as we have implemented a range of new features and improvements to our platform. Here’s a quick rundown of what we’ve accomplished so far:

January: redesigning several key elements of our user interface.

These updates were aimed at improving the overall user experience and making it easier for our users to navigate the platform. Additionally, we tackled several bugs that had been reported by our users, which helped to increase the stability and reliability of the system.

In February, we made some significant changes to our platform’s currency system.

Specifically, we added support for the Hong Kong and Pound sterling currency, which was a highly requested feature from our users in that regions. We also introduced student performance analytics and began collecting history data for statistics. These updates will allow us to provide more detailed insights into student progress and help teachers tailor their lessons to individual needs. Additionally, we made updates to our payment processing system, including reprocessing payment data and fixing any bugs that had been reported.

This can make it challenging for tutors to keep things going with new students. However, breaking the ice isn’t impossible! With a little bit of preparation and planning, you can successfully collaborate with online students without awkward silence or strange pauses. Collaborating with your online students can be tricky to begin with but once you get past the initial ice-breaking phase, you’ll have so much fun working together! Here are 5 icebreakers that get things going:

Why are Ice Breaking Activities Important?

Today’s digital learners demand a more personalized and dynamic experience to stay engaged. They want their online learning experience to feel less like a lecture and more like a conversation. Online learners might feel shy about speaking up in class or sharing their opinions because they don’t know anyone else in the class yet. That’s why breaking the ice and setting a friendly tone is highly important.

Storytelling

Collaboration is the basis for breaking the ice and getting things going and this activity is for that exact purpose. For this storytelling activity you need to prepare a set of 4 images and organize them by files. Then you need to split students into groups of 4-5 people and assign one of the files to each group. You can use Zoom’s breakout rooms that allow you to randomly split participants and visit each group separately.

Once the files are assigned, students will have 10 minutes to come up with a short story of the 4 images given. When the time is up, each group will present their story by explaining how they connected the images. Other groups will give feedback and suggest how they could have done it otherwise.

Kahoot Game

Kahoot is your biggest helping hand when it comes to making classes interactive and interesting. You can create a Kahoot game with fun questions that will help students to get to know each other. For example “How do you like to spend your free time?” answers can be sleeping, watching a movie, going out with friends.

There can also be this or that type of questions such as Marvel or DC, eating pineapple pizza or staying hungry. This will be helpful for both sides- you as a teacher will get acquainted with your audience and students will learn about each other’s tastes and preferences. It is a simple, fun and engaging activity, just give it a try!

Word Clouds

You would probably agree that visual format is preferred over any other. Word cloud is a collection of words that are presented in different sizes. When a certain word is being mentioned several times, it gets bigger on screen. Thus, the bigger the word is, the more often it is mentioned.

You can ask students to describe a famous actor, cartoon character, historical figure or anyone in one word. Answers appear in real time which makes the process so dynamic and interactive. These visual representations grab everyone’s attention as they’re fun to look at and thus break the ice quickly and easily.

You may even think about integrating this in your further classes to provide a more engaging academic setting. Whenever you want to initiate a discussion or encourage student participation, this can be a good starting point.

What does the tutoring landscape look like in 2022?

Online tutoring continues to grow at a fast pace and so do different apps and tools that assist you during your teaching journey. There are so many tutoring platforms available like Preply, TutorMe and others that you can register as a private tutor and start teaching right away, or at least when someone finds you out of the thousands of other tutors. They help you to make the teaching processes more systemized all the way from presenting the material, communicating with learners to assigning homework, etc. Here are some useful tools that you can consider incorporating into your teaching practice:

Skype and Google Meet

These online video conferencing apps allow you to hold tutoring classes by bringing a large group of people together. They support up to 100 users at once and are available for desktop, web and mobile. Both of them are secure and reliable solutions with full data protection and in-transit encryption. Their user-friendly interface allows to easily navigate through them and intuitively take tons of actions. Share screen, record the meeting, chat during the meeting and many more are right at your fingertips to make your tutoring process straightforward. Google Meet is also integrated with Google Calendars, making scheduling and bookings easier.

Kahoot

Interactive teaching and Kahoot are like synonyms. As a game-based learning platform, it makes learning so engaging and fun. You can create quizzes with different question types such as multiple choice, true/false and image-based in a couple of minutes. The best part of it is that it shows the top 3 players in a beautiful podium at the end of the game. This encourages students to put more effort to score higher and reach top positions next time. The buzz

What better time to introduce new features that help you gain more knowledge and insight than September? In our most recent release we've updated and improved everything-survey. You now have data to back up all learning and school-related decisions.

New features

Surveys - you can now build custom surveys in Tutor Platform. There's a variety of different blocks you can use, like multiple choice and Likert Scale, to evaluate learning, materials, school management, staff and so much more.
Survey Data Analysis - In Management > Analytics, there's an addition to the existing 3 dimensions of analytics - Surveys. A quick run through the page reveals detailed insight and discrepancies. Can't think of an easier way to view ongoing feedback without the heavy-duty task of data analysis.
Export data - Just for the pros, we allow data export into a common file for further research.
Ask the public - Surveys now have the options of generating public links so you can ask the right questions to even more people.
Caregiver view - It's finally here. Share parent credentials so that they can track the student's progress and see related notes and events.

UI improvements

Surveys are located in Management > Forms.
Subjects are now moved to school settings, that's where they belong.
Hate footers too? Well, there's a few centimetres of vertical space we freed for you.
But how do we change the language of the platform if there is no footer now? It's in your profile settings. Just hover over your profile picture in the upper right corner and go to Profile > Settings.
We did fix bugs too! Android users should be able to enjoy a smoother operation.

Starting a tutoring business can be fairly simple, in that it can be fully developed online and does not require an office or too many employees. A better way to put it is “Starting a tutoring business can be as simple or complex as you want it to be”.

Difficulties arise when you reach the capacity of your own resource, being the single or a small group of teachers, managers, marketing experts and financial managers of the school. Another elaboration here is that scaling is not necessarily a difficulty, but rather a challenge you can choose to go through.

Either way, here are some tips you get you started on your growth journey you won’t find anywhere else on the web.

When it comes to tutoring businesses, growing does not implicate vertical growth. Often times, trying to up every number on your dashboard will still require creative solutions. At times, on the horizontal dimension. And what better way to think of a creative solution for your case than looking at what the competition is doing?

Some research is always helpful. Especially now when information is readily available online. Any listing website you find, Crunchbase.com , for example, is one-stop shop for a list of companies that match the size and operation of the dreamed next milestone in your school’s path. There’s a free trial and enough time for you to research most of the tutoring schools nearby. A simple Google search can go a long way, if you're willing to sacrifice the details.

But why stop there? Any changes in structure are reactions to the environment. Adaptations, if you will. These adaptations occur when external factors, such as language, culture, economic status and more, bring the existing structure to an adapted state. This does mean that you can get your creativity boost by checking out other schools of the same size and market, but operating in a different cities or ones bigger than yours. Things get even more creative when you explore other countries, if you’re willing to take your research that far.

Hear me out. You will never really know exactly what your customers are after. Sure, it might seem that they are exactly after what they agree to pay for. However, thinking this way puts an end to the continuous strive of providing the best and most unique product or service. Starting a new school with different branding, mode of operation, staff or location, can help you grow a new, different version of what you already have.

At this point, you have probably figured out a certain flow of operating your business and like it is the case with a lot of businesses, you may be reluctant to make big changes, in order to avoid customer loss. However, it’s certain changes that can either make or break the business. And this is where starting a new school comes in.

The recommendation is based on mutual partnership and trust that the partner school can deliver the desired, but missing course in the same manner, quality and price. For offline schools, a key parameter for recommendations is the location too.

Having another school similar or nearby as a partner, or as the missing puzzle within your courses and services, is also more plausible if things are digital. Imagine having to transfer handwritten applications from one location to the other. Now imagine sending an application file of the same format to another school online that you’ve previously set up an automated one-click workflow with. Much better, isn’t it?

Making improvements to the flow that already works is key to success. However, structures can look very final once they reach a certain amount of stability and age. After that it’s only worth it to introduce new elements or remove old ones if following profit and success are guaranteed.For example, let’s say your school has a website, where the blog is SEO-optimized and this generates visits to your website. From there the visitors are able to learn more about your courses and book a lesson with one of the available tutors. The blog content is already there and there seems to be no need to do much with it. Instant-enabled posts can be easily viewed on social media platforms, such as Facebook and even messengers, such as WhatsApp and Telegram. This an optimization that has proven to generate more page views, however many people could easily render it useless, given that they have to put in effort to optimize something that already seems to work just fine.

These are also the kind of things that you either know about or have heard of or you haven’t. Reading every relevant advice you can find or inviting experts for a short term consultation can help you envision the next steps in your journey to make things function better.

Repetitive booking - you can now select your preferred days of the week and every week the booking will automatically occur.
Armenian is now fully supported all throughout Tutor Platform.
You can now send out reminders to your students automatically. Just set the preferred days and specify the time. No more late students or missed payments.
Got promoted to another position in your school? Tutor Platform now allows you to easily switch the member roles. This grants you access to what really matters to your position within the platform.
Send a personalized message to your school's applicants. Just go to Requests, select the applicant and click "Send notification". As easy as that!
We’ve streamlined our iOS app updates, after a short break. Get ready to receive great new features to the Tutor Platform experience on iOS.

UI changes and bug fixes

Remember that "ok" button when setting your booking time? Well, you don't have to click it anymore. Setting the time confirms the time dialogue right away.
Interactive books - a more comfortable UI and UX throughout.
In Interactive books, you can now move the blocks using special arrows at the bottom. Moving things around just got way easier!
Messages now expand to show the whole breadth of your paragraph.
This month we fixed one bug every day and 5 more just on the last Friday.

The buzz

Our teammate Tigran successfully harvested the very first yield of tomatoes grown in Tutor Platform headquarters. The bush was planted in February and we couldn't wait to see what the final product would look like. For the month of July, we kept going back and forth, noticing how beautifully the tomatoes were ripening. Finally, we got to try them out. One happy team all day!

Next week Tutor Platform's launching its very first internship program to support prospective high school graduates figure out the best career for them. We've selected a number of participants who will be challenged with a variety of real-life tasks. The internship will last a month in a hybrid (online and offline) mode. We are happy to share a new achievement for Tutor Platform. We have partnered with AYB Hybrid Learning and will help them in the effort of providing knowledge and skills to 10th grade learners across Armenia and Artsakh. The partnership also resulted in 7 internship programs at Tutor Platform that match the overall goal of helping students start a career they will love.

We have worked on the overall speed and security of the platform.
You can now see how many lessons you have left until the end of the course. Students are now also reminded to pay for the next part of the course once there's only one paid lesson left.
Now when you book a lesson by clicking on an available hour, the booking is confirmed right away.

April was great at Tutor Platform. We've not only come up with many ways to improve our client's day to day work with Tutor Platform, but also with a way to improve the lives of people who have never heard of Tutor Platform. More about that in the Upcoming section.

The buzz this month

Tutor Platform has partnered up with BuildUp to create the perfect space for goal-oriented projects. The thing is, BuildUp is starting a product-based technology bootcamp to enable many talented individuals with the right kind of skillset that will help them to the next level in their career. BuildUp is bringing in a whole Armenian IT community of over 200 leaders, directors and CEOs from all over the world, that will invest in the emerging local talent. BuildUp has developed a very special curriculum for 6 different programs, supporting all aspect of a product's lifecycle. These curricula are based on a goal-oriented OKR model, that has been making rounds in the IT for quite some time now.

OKRs (objectives and key results) are a layer of measurable, goal-based management that a majority of teams or even whole companies incorporate in their workflows. The O in OKR stands for the objective. For example, increase environmental footprint awareness or reduce plastic use. While the KR stand for key results, signifying the way you measure results and know you've achieved the goal. So an OKR with the above mentioned topics could read something like this: I will increase environmental footprint awareness as measured by the amount of people I come in contact with that are aware of the impact they've made today. Or, I will reduce plastic use as measured by the number of bottles I have to send to the garbage in three months.

To facilitate such a workflow on Tutor Platform we had to build a set of solutions that would support OKR-based learning and promote task completion among students, as well as give them better access to knowledge through our Interactive Books and the ability to book one-on-one sessions in calendar. Here's a list of features for BuildUp, that we plan to release for all of our users soon.

OKR widget in Interactive Books - this widget will support goal-oriented learning, product development and PBL. The OKR widget also introduces APIs for you to access all data about learning.
Teams - one more dimension introduced to the already existing groups and courses
Booking teacher's available hours - go directly to the calendar to view teacher's or mentor's available hours and book them right from there.

You can now export your Interactive books as PDF files.
Find payment records in Finances, easy way to keep track of school earnings and an easier way to export to different formats.
There is now a Forum feature, that enables deep-dive discussions in threads, available to all users very soon.

UI changes and bug fixes

The UI has had a fare share of updates this month, all to keep the visuals looking great and more informative, hence the new label system in courses. Check it out! If we were paid 1 million dollars for each bug we have fixed this month, we'd have 18 million dollars. Not bad at all.

We had something exciting brewing throughout April, with plans to begin in early May. Time files and the project is rounding up as our own Social Responsibility Project. We're visiting distant, bordering village with a vision and a goal of setting up lasting projects that will raise awareness about neglected areas of Armenia and bring more people to enjoy the undercover local gifts. March has been super-busy, all work and some play. We were super stoked about E-school’s launch that happened on 18 March, learn more about the project on our blog. However, the Dev team somehow managed to squeeze in a few new features that you’ll definitely notice.

Welcome the newest additions to our plugin library in Interactive books! OKR is here to help your teams or students stay focused on the initial goal. OKRs come with detailed APIs so you can track progress elsewhere on the web too.
Our mobile app now allows new users to sign up right from the start page! All login pages are now also available in Tutor Platforms core languages.
Caregivers can now view assignments and more in learner view. Yes, assignments, grades and attendance are in the list too.
Messages will now be marked as "seen" when you see them. Don't say we didn't warn you.
Schedule lesson notifications by time zones, no more counting the hours manually.

Student's assignment cards have a fresh new look and they are now clickable.
Attendance tab will get you started with your class quicker, now it focuses on today.

Schools have long noticed that tracking behaviors that affect academics, harm self or others, as well as steps taken to prevent or challenge these have a tremendous effect. Many teachers report that printed checklists or digital tools that allow to track specific behaviors or traits can improve academics not only of the student these metrics are being tracked of, but the whole class. Getting started with the offline to online transition

Schools constantly face new challenges

Some of these challenges may seem simple at first, but turn out to be greatly more nuanced than initially expected. While some other problems render irrelevant, yet bring the most impact. It is up to school managers to pick the right development plan, however it is impossible to foresee all upcoming challenges and some of them may prevent learning from happening.

One thing that can be guaranteed in the effort of making a school more resilient to the stress that changes outside bring, is making sure the core components of a school management and learning can be accessed online.

Challenge of digital platforms

However, migrating schools to online platforms while facing real world challenges can be exhaustive for school managers, learners and caretakers. The latter is especially true, when done for the very first time and under strict time limitations that cause stress. It also goes without saying that the decision-making becomes even tougher in circumstances when schools need to react fast. Choosing a platform that can ensure smooth operation of core educational structures in a school is a very demanding task.

The very first challenge thrown at a school manager trying to find the right path for offline to online can prove to be the most crucial. A quick Google search for online learning management systems will bring results that might serve as good options for some, but utterly irrelevant in your case. Another thing is that each website requires you to register before you can view the details that interest you, in case the index page is too vague in its description of available features.

Researching tools and platforms

Going through educational tool catalogs or resource lists are other popular options. The caveat here is that these suggest tools through listing them in predefined categories that might not always be fully aligned with the problem you are trying to solve. While most educational software have a steep learning curve, a week is more or less how long it will take for your managers, teachers and learners to get used to a new interface and workflow.

An important tip here is to show screenshots of the interface and translate labels used in the software to the ones people of your school use. For example, most schools use the term "group" to refer to the list of learners as one unit. However, there are many other terms that mean the same. The software you use might have "cohort", "class" or "grade" refer to the same notion. Uploading a big amount of content to a website that you are very new to can be a very challenging and stressful task. The recommendation here is to appoint more than one teacher or manager as the lead for this task. For most schools and platforms, you would not only have to upload or rebuild the content, but also upload other data, such as students names, groups and course names. E-School: Distance Education Resilience Project

We are excited to share the good news of "E-school Armenia's" launch! A project Tutor Platform developed in cooperation with Future Solutions Armenia, Asian Development Bank and The Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports of the Republic of Armenia.

The idea was to create a platform that would help build resilience towards outside events and obstacles that might work against the continuous nature of learning. The platform now allows participants to continue teaching and learning, even when faced with lockdown, like the case was with Covid-19. The platform is also helpful for learners with mobility issues, as well as learners who have no schools nearby.

The distance education resilience project aimed to develop a distance learning platform, make legislative and institutional improvements, build capacity and develop corresponding content. The efforts resulting in the project's year-long completion encompassed the analysis of current legislation, numerous meetings with mentor-school directors, NCEDI, NCET and MESCS representatives.

80 teacher-ambassadors and 18 mentor-schools were trained on how to use the distance learning platform, so that they could, in turn, help and train others.Our teammates Kima Ghulyan and Armen Meloyan, being the Tutor Platform's representatives, conducted over 15 trainings on how to effectively use the newly developed software in its full capacity. The Tutor Platform team of Hovhannes Babayan, Anna Simonyan, Davit Davtyan, Vahe Zhamharyan and Lusine Mirumyan, led by Aram Karapetyan worked day and night to make this project come to life.

Software trial was conducted with 31 students, 10 teachers, 4 school managers, 4 content developers and 10 caregivers, and was followed by launch on 18 March.

You may have been thinking about various solutions to these issues, as dealing with students is not as easy as it may seem.

Alternatives to grading: What are there in the world?

Dialogue 1:

“Hey, what have you got?”

“Ah, it’s 78, and I don’t know how, why, when.”

“Oh, that’s bad, though mine is 98. I am happy to be through with exams.”

These two samples of student-student conversations tell us what kind of attitude can be towards education. And it’s just a part of it. In the first example, students are happy to finish the exams, the second one is especially happy for the high mark, but the importance of knowledge is not emphasized, unfortunately, as it seems like after grading they will learn more and especially from their mistakes.

The second example tells wholly another story. There is no word connected with numbers, although one of the students is happy to have made clearer his/her mistakes. The other one is looking forward to discussing the issues that occurred in the writing. The latter means that studying will go on and the students will acquire a better knowledge of the subject than in the first example.

Alternatives to Number/Letter Grades

Sometimes students get high marks due to their communication skills or cheating. The opposite occurs as well. In the end, some people think of themselves as “smart” based on their grades. This can result in misunderstandings. Besides, many students start learning for the grade and do not primarily get knowledge. So we should come up with more reliable and better ways of grading a student such as:

Leaving immediate feedback : The student can get written or oral feedback from the instructor without any numbers or letters, then she/he can try to correct what was wrong.

Analyzing the work : When the student is through with the work, she/he may think about what the next step is and what she/he is taking from this lesson. So the important point is not to think about the grade, but to analyze what has been done and what has been achieved.

Pass/Fail : Students either pass or fail the regular checkups, exams, tests, etc. They do not think of getting a higher mark than the other classmate, which may help them concentrate on several extracurricular activities as well. They do not think about cheating or learning topics by heart, instead, they try to understand them.

Self-Assessment : This way of grading can be considered as one of the best assessments. Students keep their awareness of their progress. They are more motivated to learn better and grade themselves higher. This is also the honest way of assessing.

Digital Portfolios : Students get the chance to put their works on a digital platform. For example, if you have read a book and written analysis, you can freely put that work on your portfolio. Besides, this can be a good possession for future educational programs.

Remember : Giving up letter/number grades altogether is not effective, as it has a big disadvantage, which is the loss of competition. Students may not learn that hard if they know that they are not going to be graded. Strengthening the Bond between Education and Technology

"Ed&Tech 20:21: Education Questions and Technology Answers" conference took place on the 17th of July, 2021, in the COWO community workspace (Hakob Hakobyan 3, Mergelyan Institute, 11th floor). It was initiated by "KASA" Swiss Humanitarian Foundation and " Tutor Platform " educational-technological platform.

The aim of the conference was starting a dialogue with the direct participation of the educational and technological communities on the existing challenges, experience, used tools, giving the opportunity to build new contacts, mutual assistance, cooperation, synergies with partners.

The conference brought together more than 80 specialists in the fields of education and technology - teachers, educational experts, representatives of the technology community, educational institutions, government agencies.

Formal and non-formal education are not combined in Armenia . They exist in a parallel, but not in an interconnected versions ," said Kristina Sargsyan, mentioning the uniqueness of “Armath" Engineering Laboratories in entering the formal educational field being a non-formal educational program.

“ Teachers are overwhelmed with lots of duties, and they are not paid enough to be motivated to make a change. Usually, we look for a change when we see the value it will bring. I think educators do not see the real value of technology because of their overload. I am here today to tell education experts that the right technology exists, and we are here. Just welcome us! ” said Aram Karapetyan .

" If one asks what we should do in the Ministry of High-Tech Industry, the answer will unequivocally be - Education ," said Davit Sahakyan. He also mentioned that we need to be responsible for the change we want to see in education and technologies and never expect anyone to make it instead of us.

After a short break, Zaruhi Lavchyan, Project Manager at the “KASA” Foundation, conducted professional networking session, during which the participants had the opportunity to get to know each other better and exchange experiences.

Areg Tadevosyan had a fruitful speech about the effective ways of using technology in the educational system, the existing tools, the problems that appear in the educational process, their certain solutions and challenges.

Configure basic settings and add your staff

Hover over your profile picture and choose settings. The first things you will need to do are

Configuring notifications that your students should get

Go to the “members” section where you will see 3 demo accounts. You may edit/delete these accounts only when you activate pro/enterprise plans. You can add new staff members like teachers, managers, sales specialists, etc.

Add teachers so that you can create various groups and assign the groups to the teachers. You will need their email addresses and phone numbers.

If you are going to be the only teacher you can skip this step.

Configuring notifications When you create an account you get a default notifications list. You can activate the notifications that you want your students to get. Activate reminders about starting a lesson , so that students get a notification and a link to join the class.

Lesson Space

This app allows us to have audio/video conferences, share our screen, join both by web and mobile, control what students see, show some math formulas during the meeting. But however nice an app it is, if you have a large audience, you need to know that this app allows only up to 8 people to join the meeting who can send and receive audio and/or video at one time. If the 9th participant wants to join the meeting he/she can use only the whiteboard and the chatbox but cannot send or receive video and/or audio.

LiveBoard

As for LiveBoard, it has its pros and cons as well. These are real-time drawing, whiteboard sharing, unlimited board space, and Groups. But it has the same limitation connected with the number of participants as only up to 8 people can join a LiveBoard meeting. Besides, the app sometimes crashes when the board opens.

Google Meet

Google Meet is easy to use and is not that complicated. As for this app, up to 100 participants can join with a 60-minute time limit at no cost. But if your audience is larger, you need to buy any plan needed. You can also share a whiteboard. But you may encounter some difficulties while sending multimedia documents through the app. The app may also switch off an audio or drop someone during group chats consisting of many participants.

Zoom

Finally, let’s come to the Zoom about which we have talked enough above. So, Zoom allows using some innovative features such as polling, white-boarding, and remote control. Screen sharing is available as well. You can record your audio calling. If you use the free trial, you can host meetings up to 100 participants, for 40 minutes. Also, you may need a fast internet connection not to destroy the whole meeting, because Zoom’s mobile app is not that good as the website.

1. Watch series online

Rewatch your favourite shows again in English if you have already seen them in another language. You already know the story which helps you to understand a lot and it will help you learn new vocabulary. Don’t be afraid to turn on the subtitles if you want to. Studies have shown it can help! I recommend starting off with them in your native language and when you feel more confident, switch to English.

2. Set Goals

Why are you learning a language? Is it for work? Or for a holiday? What level are you at now and where do you need to be? According to research, it takes on average around 100 hours of study to move up a language level. How much time can you give to learning?

Do you need a certificate or is it just for your own peace of mind? Do you know what your level is now? When is the big presentation or job interview? Do you want to learn intensively or more leisurely? Once you sit down and think about what you really want, you are a big step towards achieving it.

3. Connect it to your hobbies

I love football, the one with the round ball, and when I moved to Germany, I was lucky to move to an area that loved it too. The only problem was I couldn’t speak any German at all. Some people think you need to learn from an expert, and while that will definitely be helpful, when it comes to practising, it can be much easier to understand a Non-native person. Don’t worry about picking up bad habits, focus on improving your confidence and fluency.

6. Go to class

Maybe this one is cheating, but a teacher can really help you along the way. When it comes to group courses, you get to meet other people and building these relationships can help you stay motivated. One-to-One means you get your teachers full attention. With my students, I am always reachable when they have specific problems, and I can provide help because I know so much about what they are dealing with. Structure from your teacher can really help you and when you find a teacher you like, it makes all the difference. This is why I would always recommend making use of a free trial if the teacher or school offers it.

All in all I think learning a language is a bit like being sporty. If you exercise often you will improve. If you stop, then you lose a bit of your progress. It doesn’t matter if you run in the gym (like a classroom) or in the park (by yourself) as long as you run. It’s good to have a trainer but you need to do some of the hard work on your own. When you have a good mix, everything is more fun and that makes your target seem much easier to reach.

Organising Into Groups

Put your trainees into right groups right from requests, the tool will help you not to overbook rooms, trainers.

Happy to announce new release 3.3.0 where teachers can provide attendance, add notes, set notes on student level, see reports. Lots of small fixes on vocabulary trainer and on the content. See details below.

Stories

– As a teacher I want to provide attendance
– As a teacher I want to add notes to student for each attendance
– As a teacher I want to add general notes to the student
– As a school manager I want to see reports on attendance
– As a student I receive notification when teacher marks me “unattended”
– As a teacher I want to see student notes in the group

Tasks

– Group or filter by Level in lesson list in admin
– Suggest messenger users to use mobile app if they do not
– Setup regular mongo backup
– Rework New English File book content (90%)
– Correct punctuation (Sentence begins with a capitalised word and ends with a dot)
– Have a chat a like navigation over training
– Increase or reduce speech speed depending on word length
– Catch errors and move forward
– At the beginning of new portion do not ask questions on old one
– Improve voice exercise
– Create a way to clone training configs and assign to the group
– Deal with 404 on images
– Change breadcrumb to have group name in the middle (group->groupName->attendance)
– As a user I want to get audio when I answer incorrectly in speech exercise
– Improvements to attendance
– Have a link between students and schools
– Have an hourly rate on school-teacher
– Add option to update school member relation
– Add members section to partner page

Bugfixes

– Wrong answer
– Game does not work
– In Android right after word card it jumps to the next portion

2017 was awesome!!!

Before setting off fireworks and welcoming the New Year, let’s sum up the year. 2017 was a very fruitful and a rapid year to pass. And I am just thrilled to tell you what we achieved during this year.

As you may all know, we have started quit small: we had a small team, the vision was vague, solutions and problems themselves were not yet refined. But one thing we knew for sure! We wanted to ease new language learning and make it fun, meanwhile not dissolving it into a childish game.

Now we have a dynamic team of developers, product and quality people, more than 150 students, 6 clients who trusted us and agreed to go through innovation in language acquisition process.

Our vision itself has developed enormously too. Initially we developed a language learning chatbot, which has grown into a mobile application. Besides, we have created a platform for teachers. Here they can create and manage student-specific courses and apply individualised teaching methods.

Maaan, it is quite difficult to summarize a whole year into a 250-word post. In my next ones, I will write a bit more thoroughly.

Before I finish up, I want to say how happy and proud I am being in the roots of this everything. It’s just heartwarming to see how people use something you (the whole team) have created!

Dears, it is awesome to have you all by us and supporting us at each step: from testing out our products, ideas, features… and just by downloading the mobile app here and there.

Back from hard-working

I want to first apologize for such long silence. But this break was indeed very fruitful. We have worked quite hard, and expanded the Tutor in three directions: now not only language learners, but also teachers and schools can benefit from using Tutor. Each from their different point of view, of course.

Today, I am going to talk about Tutor-Students.

Most importantly, we have launched the Tutor Bot mobile app. Yeaaah!!! You as a student can now learn English and German both with Tutor chatbot and Tutor Bot mobile app. The mobile app is in Apple store for about three months already, and the Android users can find Tutor Bot since last week in Google Play.

Elegant minimalism will let you stay focused on the training

While working on Tutor chatbot, we had ideas which, unfortunately, could not be realised in a chatbot. That’s was the moment we understood we were morally fraught to create a mobile application.

What gives the mobile app to you as a student?
